Ecolab Inc. acquired Gallay Medical & Scientific, a distributor of medical, dental and pharmaceutical products in Australia and New Zealand. St. Paul-based Ecolab didn’t reveal the financial terms behind the acquisition of Gallay, which is based in Melbourne and had sales of about $28 million in its previous fiscal year.
Ecolab is Minnesota’s fifth-largest manufacturer, the annual revenue was about $14 billion. The senior vice president and general manager of Ecolab Healthcare, Gergely Sved said, “The deal will strengthen the company’s existing business in providing infection-prevention products in Australia and New Zealand.”
Ecolab has made several smaller acquisitions in the past year. In February it acquired an online training company for hospitality and food services, Geneva-based Lobster Ink. In January, it acquired British decontamination equipment manufacturer Bioquell. It also bought Holchem Group Limited, a British cleaning manufacturer in December 2018. All of those deals involved businesses close to Ecolab’s core operations of sanitizing and cleaning products and services.
The company also has big chemical operations that caters to the energy industry, but it’s moving to spin off that unit as a separate company. Gallay Medical & Scientific is a leader in providing medical devices, equipment, chemistry and service to the medical, dental, scientific and pharmaceutical industries. It was founded by Jan Vat in 1965, the company has approximately 100 employees, including its field service team, and operates a research, development and technical center in Melbourne with offices, workshops and warehouses throughout Australia and New Zealand.
