Clean energy must be rolled out six times faster

In order to control and restrict global temperature to a maximum of 1.5 degrees Celsius, the renewables energy success story saw 108 GW of solar deployed last year that needs to be turned up to the next level and in a shorter period of time.

The Emissions Gap Report published today by the UN Environment Program (UNEP) described the roll-out of renewable energy technology as a winner in the battle to reduce worldwide temperature but warned clean energy placement needs to happen six times faster or the world will not be able to keep temperatures less than 1.5 degrees Celsius warmer than in pre-industrial times.

There are a report which record 167 GW of renewable energy generation capacity installed last year – including 108 GW of solar – and added the $273 billion invested in renewables was around three times more than was spent on coal and gas. Even today, coal, oil and gas meet 85% of the world’s energy needs.
