Australia, USA, EU to enter Indian wine market, as imports grow at 12-13%

French wine maker Vignobles Arbeau recently launched its own brand with a collaboration of Tetrad Global Beverages. Many of the wine making companies from the countries like Australia, USA and EU are considering to enter the Indian markets to explore the growth opportunities as the expected growth rate with Indian market is 12-14% as it is aspirational drink for imported wines and some of the varietals of grapes do not grow in Indian climatic conditions.

The price of an imported wine bottle amounts to 1300-1900 India. As per the latest reports, the largest wine supplies to India come from Australia and Europe amounting to 75% of import. The important of wine from Australia has overtaken imports from Europe. According to Wine Australia, for December 2018 the wine exports to India grew in volume and value by 50% and 52% respectively.

According to Australian Trade and Investment Commission data, the traditional wine making countries look at the Indian market. For India, with a population of 1.3 billion and 700 million people are above the legal drinking age amounting to19 million a year hence India is a market with many opportunities for Australian winemakers.
